Like their namesake suggests, Loksmith will unlock Rock. Held together by a love for music, the Hillerød quartet aims to make music to come together over.
Loksmith’s musical journey began in 2019 when Bastian Hobbs, Malte Andersen, Valdemar Hansen, and William Nielsen met at Tølløse Privat-, og Efterskole and quickly started writing songs together.
With an affinity for bands like Muse, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy and Deftones, the band has based their sound in guitar-led rock, and is recognisable by cascading arpeggios, thumping rhythms and huge dynamic shifts.
Fresh out of the Covid-19 lockdown, the band started playing live, and very quickly introduced themselves to the Danish underground scene: The real loksmith experience is in-concert.
In November of 2023, Loksmith released their debut-EP The Issue. It was recorded, mixed and mastered in Media Sound Studios in Copenhagen with platinum-winning producer Peter Brander. The EP covers a wide range of sounds, going from stadium ballads to unrequited love songs without breaking your immersion, and serves as the bands first big step in their path to rock-stardom.

Interview
What's the inspiration for your bandname?
We came up with Loksmith very early on in a rehearsal. After talking for a while, we realized that a band name just needs to be something that stands out and is tied to us and our sound. We talked about how The Doors is a band, and how odd that actually is as a name. From there, we joked about going by The Locks, eventually landing on Loksmith, C removed, and it just feeling right.
Can you introduce us to the band and your music?
Loksmith is a four-piece Prog Rock band out of 2019. The four band members come from 4 very different musical backgrounds and music tastes, and with 4 very different levels of classical music education ranging from none to 9 years of it. Though the overarching sound of Loksmith is based in Prog Rock, their songs contain influences from the likes of Muse, Avenged Sevenfold, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Tool and Between The Buried And Me. Thus drawing upon all aspects of Rock and Metal to create songs containing anthemic choruses, intense riffs, brave melodies and the occasional odd time signature. Attention grabbing guitar-lines, drum-set abuse and melodic vocals are all a big part of how we generally sound
If you could describe your sound in three words, what would they be?
Aggressive, Nostalgic, Melodic.
Who are some of your major musicial influences?
Muse, Dizzy Mizz Lizzy, Blink 182, Tool, Between The Buried and Me and Major Parkinson are all big inspirations for us in our songwriting, some more than others.
Do you have a special ritual before goin on stage?
We always have a sip of whiskey together to ease the nerve before going on stage
What can the audience expect from your live-show?
The audience can expect a solid stage presence and some fun stage banter, as well as thoroughly rehearsed songs. We like going hard and heavy but also going fragile and melancholic, so we make sure to get some of both in the setlist every time we play. There will be songs to headbang to and songs to wave your arms to. We hope that one day you'll even start to sing along to our big, anthemic choruses.
What made you choose to participate at the Emergenza Festival?
We want to play live. We want to play in front of many different crowds of different sizes full of different people. We hope to inspire and prove that rock is not a dead art, and that it is still evolving.
What's the craziest thing you've done together as a band?
Made it to the finale of Emergenza, here's to hoping!
What would be your dream concert to play?
One that makes a difference, to us or the world. One day we hope to play a big show at a stadium, one that makes us feel like we've made it. Another day we hope to have the stature and presence within the music industry to do some sort of charity gig and it raising enough to do something.
